Apple first previewed the AirPower charging mat at its iPhone X launch event last year and also confirmed that the product will launch in 2018. The announcement not only sent the leaksters hunting for any information regarding the accessory, but also left news-hungry people guessing about the launch date and the price of the device. Now, a Chinese website has claimed that Apple will unveil the AirPower charging mat in September alongside the new iPhones with a price tag of 1000 yuan (approx $145 or Rs 10,000). “Industry insiders” speculate that the AirPower will be priced around 1,000 Chinese yuan. This suggests the AirPower could cost around $149 in the US, MacRumours cited Chongdiantou as saying. Previously, Chongdiantou had leaked the images of an alleged engineering prototype of Apple's 18-watt USB-C power adapter for 2018 iPhones. It is also speculated that Apple could announce the price and availability of the device at this year’s iPhone launch event, alongside Apple Watch Series 4 and AirPods with "Hey Siri" support. If the prices are believed to be accurate, $149 is a lot for a charger. The mat can charge the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. In the watch section, Apple Watch Series 3 models and the new Apple Watch Series 4 models can be charged along with an iPhone and an AirPod charging case. Apple is already launching an “affordable” iPhone this year to reclaim the lost ground in the market. Chongdiantou also claimed that all three iPhones expected to be released in 2018 will feature wireless charging, which includes the 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD display. As far as the pricing of the 2018 iPhones is concerned, noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that Apple could opt for an aggressive pricing and may launch the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone for $900-$1,000, 5.8-inch OLED iPhone for $800-$900 and a new 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will be priced at $600-$700.
